WhatsApp has become synonymous with instant messaging in most parts of the world. Most of our interactions with others, in day-to-day life, are done via the app. However, we are also familiar with the fact that the images shared on WhatsApp are heavily compressed, and their quality is degraded.
Thankfully, this might change in the future, and you could soon be able to share high-quality photos on WhatsApp, which was long overdue. WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is working on a new feature that would let users share “original quality photos” without any compression.
Sending low-quality images in today's world is limiting
This feature was spotted testing in the latest WhatsApp beta app version 2.23.2.11 for Android. When you share images, a new Setting icon will appear at the top of the drawing tool menu. Clicking on the Settings icon will reveal the ‘Photo Quality' option. Tapping on the ‘Photo Quality' option will let you share high-quality images. This feature, most likely, won't be available for videos.
As of now, we have the options to select Auto, Data-Saver, and Best Quality when sharing images. However, the difference in the last two modes is pretty minimal. Speaking of numbers, images shared with the Data-Saver mode are sent in 0.9 MP resolution, whereas images sent in the Best quality mode are in 1.4MP resolution. Images of such low quality are of no use in today's world.
Currently, there is no information on when WhatsApp plans to add the ability to share high-quality photos to its app. Looking at the feature, it seems to be under development and will take its time before it is made available to the public.
