The latest two beta versions of WhatsApp that rolled out through the Google Play Beta Program over the past few days appear to contain two new exciting changes and additions. They are now getting tested with the help of a small number of beta users.
The first big change, spotted in WhatsApp beta version 2.23.14.10, adds an option to send high-quality videos. These files are larger but have a higher resolution of 1296 x 608 rather than 880 x 416.
Beta testers (via WABetaInfo) say these high-quality videos shared with contacts will be marked as being HD in conversations.
An even newer WhatsApp beta update, version 2.23.14.12, brings one visual change to the messaging app. Namely, pop-up windows get reshaped to follow the latest Material Design rules.
As exemplified in the screenshot above, pop-up windows in WhatsApp have square corners, regardless if you use a Samsung phone or a different Android phone brand. However, beta version 2.23.14.12 makes pop-ups rounder and less jarring.
What's also interesting about this change is that it might be just the beginning of a new and updated WhatsApp user interface that follows Material Design rules more closely. The messaging app might get more thorough redesign with future builds.
