Introduction

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is one of the two smartwatches Samsung announced at Galaxy Unpacked in August 2021. And despite it being called the “Classic,” it's technically a direct sequel to the Galaxy Watch 3.

The latest smartwatch has a refreshed design that retains the physical rotating bezel. The Galaxy Watch 4 classic boasts upgraded internal hardware including a new 5nm chipset, as well as a new software experience provided by a combination of Google's Wear OS and Samsung One UI. It looks familiar to Galaxy Watch fans, but it is quite a departure from the series in other, meaningful ways.

Design

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and Galaxy Watch 3 look similar, but you can tell them apart by looking at the side buttons. The latest model has rectangular rather than circular side buttons, and there's a good reason for this. Namely that the buttons double as BIA sensors for body fat readings.

The physical bezel surrounds a flat display, and the wearable is available in two sizes — 42mm and 46mm. Regardless, the smartwatch is available in two color options — black, silver — and has interchangeable straps.

Specifications

The Exynos 9110 SoC is on its way out. After years of serving Samsung's smartwatch portfolio, the chipset is finally getting replaced by the Exynos W920. It's a new 5nm solution from Samsung, and it contributes to making the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic more powerful and efficient. The watch comes with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

The new Classic watch has a stainless steel case, it's dust and water resistant, and boasts Gorilla Glass DX+. Depending on whether it's the 42mm or 46mm model, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic conceals a 247mAh or a 361mAh battery.

Software and Features

Tizen OS for smartwatches is getting replaced by Wear OS 3. Google collaborated with Samsung on this new version of Wear OS for smartwatches, and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is among the first to deliver this new experience to customers. Nevertheless, the standard software is covered by Samsung's proprietary One UI, so it doesn't look out of place.

One of the great benefits of Wear OS is improved app support. Thanks to this change of platforms, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic can take advantage of the Google Play Store for more third-party apps, as well as Google Maps and other Google services.

Health and fitless-related features include ECG monitoring and a Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis sensor capable of measuring body fat composition.

Price and Availability

The 42mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic was introduced for $349, whereas the 46mm variant costs $379. The LTE models cost $399 and $429, respectively.

Both the 42mm and 46mm models were scheduled to go on sale on August 27.
