SamMobile Recap: Lots of KitKat updates, Simband health platform, 7-inch phones

There’s a lot of stuff that happens in the mobile industry, something that is especially true when it comes to giants like Samsung. If you missed out on some (or all) of what happened in the last 24 hours or so, well, here’s a recap of all the big things that went down.

Samsung launched a new health platform and the Simband reference smartwatch, with the company hoping that its open platform will advance what health sensors on wearables can do and how the data can be used by developers by accessing it from the cloud. Samsung also started rolling out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for quite a few devices – we saw the update go out to the Galaxy Mega 6.3, and carrier variants of the Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III in the US.

Samsung's 7-inch phone that looks like a tablet got blessings from the FCC to come closer to a market launch, images of the AT&T version of the Galaxy S5 Active came out in the clearest form yet (followed by an official announcement of the device earlier today), and a leak suggested that the Galaxy K zoom might be renamed to Galaxy K zoom 2 in South Korea.

Here's the full rundown:

As usual, a lot of devices got general firmware updates as well, so here’s a list of all the updates that rolled to Samsung devices yesterday (as always, you can find all the firmware you need in our firmware section):
