A few weeks back Samsung launched two new mid-range handsets in China that are geared towards the selfie-obsessed crowd, India is the next market where Samsung is launching the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7. The company conducted an event in the country today to formally announce these handsets and reveal exactly how much they're going to cost.
Galaxy J5 is the cheaper option priced at Rs. 11,999 (~$189,-) and it comes with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display, 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD card support, 4G LTE dual-SIM support, 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front-facing camera, Android 5.1 Lollipop and a 2,600mAh battery. Galaxy J7 is slightly more expensive at Rs. 14,999 (~$236,-) and it has more or less the same specifications save for the fact that it has a larger 5.5-inch display with the same resolution, 1.5 GHz Exynos 7580 octa-core processor and a 3,000mAh battery. The feature that Samsung is focusing the most on is the 5-megapixel front-facing camera with 120-degree wide-angle lens and an LED flash.
Customers in India will also get in-app purchase credit worth Rs. 3,200 from Gameloft and double data on Airtel 4G for six months. Flipkart will be exclusively selling these devices in black, white and gold colors, pre-booking is open today and shipments start July 23rd.
