We reported last week that Samsung will start selling SmartThing's upcoming home automation products from next month. The company also revealed that it will announce new features at the same time. Right before the announcement, the company has announced that its hub is now compatible with Amazon Echo speakers.
The Amazon Echo speaker is an internet-connected smart wireless speaker that features S Voice and Siri-like digital voice assistant Alexa. Echo and SmartThings can now talk to each other, so you can say things like “Alexa, turn on the desk light” or “Alexa, turn off the living room light” and so on. Basically, you can voice control things connected to SmartThings hub through Amazon Echo speaker. Samsung acquired home automation startup SmartThings last year for $200 million.
Amazon Echo integration will work with current-generation as well as next-generation Hubs from SmartThings. Be sure to check out the video below that showcases demonstration of controlling SmartThings-connected appliances using an Echo speaker. If you own both the devices, you can check out SmartThings' guide that has step-by-step instructions to connect these devices.
