Vodafone is the first carrier in Europe to start pushing out this month's Security Maintenance Release (SMR) to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. It's kicking off the rollout in Germany where Samsung is expected to follow suit and start distributing an identical firmware for the handsets sometime over the course of the next couple of days.
As you'd expect, this update doesn't bring any new functionality to the devices. It just transports all of Google’s latest patches for the Android OS, in addition to a handful of Samsung-specific optimizations, which includes a fix for a vulnerability that resulted in the Jack audio service enabling malicious applications to access or modify values in shared memory.
If you own Vodafone-branded Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge, are located in Germany and would like to see if the firmware is ready to be installed on your device, you can do so by heading into the Settings screen, tapping About Device, selecting Software Update, then clicking the Update Now button.
