We had been hearing rumors prior to the launch of the Galaxy Note 7 that Samsung was likely to introduce a new Gear VR headset as well. On August 2nd, the company did announce a new Gear VR headset that's compatible with the Galaxy Note 7 as the new flagship features a USB Type-C port. Samsung is going to release the new Gear VR on August 19th and folks who want one can pre-order one now from Amazon.
One of the biggest changes that you will immediately notice is that the headset is now all-black as opposed to its previous black and white color scheme. It also features a redesigned trackpad, has a greater field of view and more cushioning. Even though it has been refreshed with the Galaxy Note 7 in mind the headset still supports the entire Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 series as well as the Galaxy Note 5 despite the fact that they don't feature a USB Type-C port. The new Gear VR can now be pre-ordered from Amazon for $99 with shipments starting August 19th.
