Here first teamed up with Samsung to create a maps and navigation app for its Gear smartwatches back in 2014. We saw the company update its Here Maps app with support for the Gear S2 soon after Samsung's first circular smartwatch was announced last year. It has now done this for the Gear S3. Samsung's latest smartwatch hasn't been released as yet but Here has already confirmed that it has updated the app with more features for the Gear S3.
The company says that Here WeGo provides more functionality than its predecessor by offering a comprehensive mapping experience with places search as well as the ability to plan a route on foot, by car or by public transit. What's different about this version is that it's a standalone mapping app, previous versions needed to be synced with the Here app for Android, but that's no longer the case.
Here WeGo for Gear S3 is capable of caching map data which means that users will notice an improvement in performance, it's user interface has been developed to perfectly fit the Gear S3's round display. The company continues to develop more features for this app like bike navigation and offline navigation which will be added in the future.
What's great is that this new app is also compatible with the Gear S2. Here says that the new Here WoGo app for Samsung's smartwatches will be out next month. Samsung is likely to start shipping the Gear S3 in Europe on November 4.
