Samsung released the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in a handful of markets on April 21. Since then, it has gradually been rolling out the new flagship in additional markets across the globe. However, the handsets have yet to make their way to China, one of the most lucrative smartphone markets on the planet.
While the company hasn't really said why it has made customers in China wait so long to get their hands on its new smartphone, a report out of South Korea claims that Samsung is going to hold a launch event for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in China on May 18. The handsets are expected to be released on May 25.
The company is reportedly going to add support for the Chinese language to Bixby next month which will enable users in the country to get the full Bixby experience. The way Samsung puts it, Bixby will enable users to perform any task that they can do by tapping on the screen by just issuing voice commands.
It remains to be seen how well the Galaxy S8 performs in China. The market conditions in that country are not that favorable for Samsung. It faces intense competition from local manufacturers and thus only accounts for 3.3 percent of the entire smartphone market as of Q1 2017.
Moreover, diplomatic tensions between South Korea and China don't help either, aside from the fact that Samsung's brand reputation in China has suffered significantly post-Galaxy Note 7.
