Unlocked Galaxy S9 now getting Android Pie update in the US

The unlocked models of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are now being updated to Android Pie in the US. Samsung has taken its sweet time to release the update for the unlocked models, as carrier-locked devices started getting Pie three weeks back. But the wait has finally ended, with multiple reports of the update being available on unlocked units in the last couple of hours.

The nearly 1.8GB Pie update comes with the January 2019 security patch so it's not exactly the most up-to-date, but the February patch isn't yet available for most other regions, either. The software version for the S9 and S9+ updates is G960U1UEU3CSA8 and G965U1UEU3CSA8 respectively. You can grab the update over the air from the Settings » Software update menu on your S9 or S9+; as always, the update may not be available for everyone right away, so you might have to check again a little later. We'll let you know once the firmware for the update is available in our database so you have an alternative means to make the jump to Pie.

To see what Android Pie brings to your Galaxy S9 or S9+, check out our One UI (Android Pie) feature focus series. We are also told that the Galaxy Note 9 should be receiving the Pie update for users who are on the Pie beta in the US. Samsung tech support says the update could roll out sometime today or tomorrow, so Note 9 owners might also want to keep an eye out.
