Samsung has reportedly optimized the camera supply chain for its upcoming foldable phones: the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. All three phones now have additional camera module suppliers, which could lower overall costs and make the supply chain more reliable.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 will reportedly feature a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP front-facing camera, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Its front camera modules will be supplied by Camsys and MCNEX, while the rear camera modules and lenses will come from Powerlogics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Sunny Optical.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to feature two 10MP front-facing cameras, a 50MP primary rear camera with OIS, and a 50MP ultrawide camera. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could use a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera, and two 10MP front-facing cameras.
The camera modules for both Galaxy Z Fold 8 series phones could be supplied by Camsys, MCNEX, Namuga, and Powerlogics.
With Apple expected to launch its first foldable smartphone, likely called the iPhone Ultra, Samsung appears to be strengthening its component supply chain to reduce costs and improve production reliability. This is particularly important at a time when memory chip prices, including DRAM and NAND flash, have risen sharply over the past couple of years.
The South Korean firm is expected to offer a broad lineup of foldable phones, ranging from the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE to the ultra high-end Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, with each model targeting a different price segment and user preference.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE could launch later this year and is expected to be the company’s most affordable new foldable phone.
