Samsung has already updated some Galaxy A series phones launched in 2019 with the January security patch. Now, the company has turned its attention to some older A series devices. The January security update is rolling out to the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A7 (2018). For the Galaxy A7 (2018), the update is rolling out in Colombia and for subscribers of the Claro network in Brazil. It features software version A750GUBU4BSL1.
The Galaxy A8 (2018) update has been released more widely. It is available in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay, and Trinidad and Tobago. The software version for the A8 (2018) update is A530FXXS9CTA8. Only the new security patch is included in the update for the A8 (2018). The Galaxy A7 (2018) should be getting other features and/or improvements, but we're unable to say what those might be. You can, however, see what the January security update is all about in our monthly report.
Both devices should get the January update in a few other markets in the coming days, but it will depend on whether either of them has received an update in the last three months in a particular market, as both devices are on a quarterly security update schedule. You can check if the latest update is available for you by opening the Settings app on your phone, navigating to Software update, and selecting Download and install. Firmware for these devices can be found in our firmware archive and can be used to update manually using a Windows PC.
