Samsung makes a wide variety of consumer electronics and home appliances, ranging from smartphones and TVs to ACs and refrigerators. Apparently, the company plans to launch new refrigerators that have built-in water purifiers.
The South Korean home appliances maker had launched some refrigerator models in the past with an inbuilt water purification system, but the company had stopped offering the functionality after a while due to low demand. Now, Samsung wants to try its luck once again this year. The company has already developed a few refrigerators and plans to launch them in 2020.
It is being reported that Samsung's upcoming refrigerators can surpass standalone water purifiers in terms of capacity. They can purify up to 2,300 liters, and they need a filter replacement and maintenance only after seven or eight months, which is longer than the maintenance period for purifiers from rival brands.
Since water purifiers require regular maintenance for cleaning and replacing the filters, Samsung plans to join hands with Samsung Electronics Services. The after-sales service company has a national presence in South Korea, and it can provide maintenance for Samsung Electronics' upcoming refrigerators.
Although Samsung had a few refrigerators with built-in water purifiers in the past, they weren't popular. So, the company decided to stop offering such models and replaced water purifiers with the ability to dispense sparkling water.
Now, the South Korean conglomerate wants to re-enter the market as it is targeting the booming rental market and high profitability associated with it. Samsung has reportedly also developed standalone water purifiers, but it is not clear if the company will release them.
