Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Buds Pro alongside the Galaxy S21 today, and they are the company’s best-ever truly wireless earphones. They are the company’s fourth truly wireless earphones in the Galaxy Buds lineup. The original Galaxy Buds were launched in 2019, and the Galaxy Buds+ and the Galaxy Buds Live were released in 2020. Let us compare the Galaxy Buds Pro with the Galaxy Buds to see how much improvement the South Korean tech giant managed to bring within a span of two years.

Galaxy Buds Pro vs Galaxy Buds: Audio and call quality

The Galaxy Buds use a single driver, while the Galaxy Buds Pro feature a dual-driver setup (11mm woofer and 6.5mm tweeter). Both use a Bluetooth 5.0 chip with support for AAC, SBC, and Samsung Scalable Codec. They both have an in-ear canal design for passive noise cancellation, but the Galaxy Buds Pro also feature active noise cancellation for drowning out background noise even further. In fact, Samsung claims that the Galaxy Buds Pro can remove up to 99% of background noise.

The Galaxy Buds have two microphones on each earbud, while the Galaxy Buds Pro feature three mics on each side. Additional features on the Galaxy Buds Pro like a Voice Pickup Unit, mics with a high signal-to-noise ratio, and Wind Shield technology make the earphones even better during voice calls. It is clear that the new earbuds sound much better than the Galaxy Buds. Plus, you can even switch between ANC and ambient modes, depending on what you are doing.

Galaxy Buds Pro vs Galaxy Buds: Additional features

The Galaxy Buds Pro feature Dolby’s Head Tracking technology and 360-degree audio for an immersive audio experience while watching videos. They can even be paired with the Galaxy S21 to synchronize their mics for higher quality audio while recording videos. They also feature Game Mode for lower audio latency while gaming and SmartThings Find to find the earphones when they are lost. The Galaxy Buds Pro can switch between multiple Galaxy devices, depending on which device you are actively using. The Galaxy Buds lack all of these additional features.

Both earphones have touch controls, and they are compatible with the Galaxy Wearable app on Android and iOS devices.

Galaxy Buds Pro vs Galaxy Buds: Battery life and charging

The Galaxy Buds last six hours on a single charge, and with the charging case combined, they can last up to 13 hours. The Galaxy Buds Pro can last up to 8 hours on a single charge, and the case offers up to 20 hours worth of additional charge. With the ANC mode turned on, the Galaxy Buds Pro can last up to 5 hours, and the charging case has up to 13 hours worth of additional charge left. Both earphones feature a compact case with a USB Type-C port, Qi wireless charging, and fast charging.

The Galaxy Buds Pro offer a lot of additional features, improve music and call quality, and longer battery life for $100 extra. It is clear that Samsung has made a lot of improvements over the past couple of years, and if you can spend an additional $100, it is clear which truly wireless earphones you should go for.
