Samsung is popular for adding a bunch of useful features on top of Android. With every new smartphone and software release, it brings additional features. With the launch of the Galaxy S21, it brought native support for Google Discover Feed and Google Messages. The company has also added support for custom backgrounds during video calls.
With the Video Calling Effects feature on Galaxy S21 series devices, users can apply custom real-time backgrounds during video calls. These effects are compatible with Cisco Webex, Google Duo, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom on One UI 3.1. Once enabled, a bubble appears when you use those video calling apps, letting you tinker with background settings. You can either choose a background image, a single background color, or blur the actual background.
The feature can be enabled on the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra by navigating to Settings » Advanced features » Video call effects. The feature worked well during our testing on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It is a great feature to have, especially since people have been doing video calls and video conferences a lot more since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Samsung may roll out Video Calling Effects to more apps (Google Meet, Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp) and more devices with future updates to One UI. Have you used this feature on your Galaxy S21 series device? Let us know what you think of it in the comments section below.
