Samsung has finally unveiled the Galaxy A52, probably the most-awaited mid-range Galaxy smartphone of this year. The new phone brings various improvements over its predecessor and 2020’s best-selling Android smartphone, the Galaxy A51. The Galaxy A52 offers a better screen, a superior camera setup, an improved design, faster connectivity (in the 5G variant), newer software, and a bigger battery.
The Galaxy A52 can be the perfect choice for those who are looking for a good mid-range smartphone or those who are upgrading from the Galaxy A50s or even the Galaxy A51. Check out of the video below to see the top five features of the phone, or continue reading after the break for all the reasons why the A52 is so good.
90Hz Super AMOLED display (120Hz on the Galaxy A52 5G)
The Galaxy A52 sports a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. A high-refresh-rate screen offers a more fluid experience while scrolling, navigating through the UI, browsing the web, and gaming. The 5G variant of the Galaxy A52 uses an even faster, 120Hz Super AMOLED display. Thanks to its high-refresh-rate display, the Galaxy A52 should offer smoother performance in day-to-day tasks.
64MP quad-camera with OIS
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A52 5G with a quad-camera setup, featuring a 64MP primary camera with OIS (optical image stabilization), a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro camera. Compared to the Galaxy A51’s 48MP camera, the Galaxy A52 should offer improved image and video quality, thanks to OIS. A larger sensor and OIS should help in capturing more details, especially in low-light conditions. Video recording would be smoother, too. The phone can record 4K 30fps videos using both front and rear-facing cameras.
If you are someone who spends a lot of time on Snapchat but hates its low-quality images, you will love the Galaxy A52. Samsung has integrated Snapchat’s fun filters right inside the stock camera app. This is the first time the South Korean firm is offering this feature in its mid-range smartphone. You can capture higher resolution and higher quality images with Snapchat filters if you use the stock camera app on the Galaxy A52.
Pro Video mode for the first time in a mid-range Galaxy device
The Galaxy A52 is the first mid-range smartphone from Samsung that features the Pro video mode. It gives you all the advanced camera controls while recording videos. You can change the ISO, shutter speed, focus, white balance, exposure, aspect ratio, metering, and more while recording videos using the Galaxy A52’s Pro Video mode.
Snapdragon 720G processor
As opposed to the Galaxy A51’s puny Exynos 9611 processor, the Galaxy A52’s Snapdragon 720G chipset offers much better performance. The Snapdragon 720G is around thrice as powerful as the Exynos 9611 in graphics performance, which means that the Galaxy A52 will offer a much better gaming experience. Other day-to-day tasks like web browsing, using the camera, and launching apps should be faster as well.
The Galaxy A52 5G uses the Snapdragon 750G processor, which is even faster than the Snapdragon 720G. It is as fast as the Exynos 980 processor that was used inside the Galaxy A51 5G, so if you are upgrading from the Galaxy A51 5G to the Galaxy A52 5G, you likely won’t notice a difference in raw performance. However, a faster refresh rate will still offer improved smoothness.
Stereo speakers
Samsung has also equipped the Galaxy A52 with stereo speakers, which, when combined with the Super AMOLED display, should offer a pretty sweet audio-visual experience while watching videos. And yes, the phone still comes with a dedicated headphone jack, so you won’t have to sacrifice audio quality.
IP67 rating for dust and water resistance
Another flagship feature that has found its way into the Galaxy A52 is an IP67-certified design. It means that the smartphone is resistant to dust and water (up to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes), offering you peace of mind while you are stuck in the rain or if you are enjoying on the beach or by a pool.
Android 11 with One UI 3.1 out of the box, three major OS updates
The Galaxy A52 comes with Android 11 (One UI 3.1) out of the box, and Samsung is promising three major Android updates. That’s huge for a mid-range smartphone! It means that the Galaxy A52 will receive the Android 14 update sometime in 2024. We don’t think there is any other smartphone brand that has committed to offering so many software updates to a mid-range phone. If you are someone who keeps their phone for 2-3 years, this is an excellent reason to buy the Galaxy A52 or the Galaxy A52 5G.
25W Super Fast charging
Although the Galaxy A52 comes with a 15W fast charger in the box, it supports 25W super fast charging. If you have a compatible USB PD charger with PPS 3.0 and a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable, you should be able to top up the Galaxy A52’s 4,500mAh battery from 0-100% in a little over an hour.
Be it a Super AMOLED display with a high refresh rate, stereo speakers, a high-end camera sensor with OIS, IP67 certification, or the promise of three major OS updates, Samsung has managed to bring a lot of features to its mid-range smartphone that were earlier only available on high-end Galaxy devices. The Galaxy A52 has the potential to become 2021’s best-selling Android smartphone.
