The Galaxy Z Flip 3 will ship with a 15W charger in the box, at least according to a previous entry in the 3C database that revealed this characteristic a few months ago. Now, this wasn't necessarily a confirmation that the phone itself will be limited to 15W charging, but as we get closer to Galaxy Unpacked 2021, this seems more and more like reality.
Mind you, this has yet to be officially confirmed, so perhaps Samsung will surprise us on August 11. But according to the latest bits of information floating around Twitter, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will have a 3,300mAh battery that tops out at 15W fast charging.
Same battery, 5nm chipset, and a high refresh rate display
Although it isn't terrible, battery life is one of the weaker points of the original Galaxy Z Flip. It's equipped with a 3,300mAh battery with 15W charging, the Snapdragon 855+ 7nm chipset, and a 60Hz foldable display.
Galaxy Z Flip second opinion review
Meanwhile, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 3 will reportedly have the same battery characteristics along with a more power-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and a more power-hungry 120Hz display. It will also feature a larger cover display that will have higher energy requirements.
Exactly how this combination of hardware will translate into real-world performance remains to be seen, but it doesn't seem like the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be capable of raising the battery life bar much higher than its predecessor. It's likely going to have similar battery life, and that might not be enough for some customers.
What the solution might've been
Faster charging capabilities would probably be the best and easiest way to improve autonomy on the Galaxy Z Flip series without having to change much of the design. This is what we were hoping for. An upper limit of 25W at least, but we might have to wait for future generations before this happens.
Increasing the battery capacity without compromising the form factor might be too difficult and/or wasteful, especially given that the phone has two batteries with a combined capacity of 3,300mAh. However, giving the Galaxy Z Flip series 25W fast charging capabilities — or better — would probably be the next best step. Sadly though, it doesn't look like faster charging will be coming to the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
