Samsung is expected to launch three high-end smartphones later this year. Two of those are almost confirmed to be the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The third device was expected to be the Galaxy S23 FE. However, it is being reported that it isn't, and Samsung might launch a new type of foldable phone.
Galaxy tri-folding phone could launch later this year
Reliable tipster Yogesh Brar claims that Samsung will not launch the Galaxy S23 FE this year, contrary to numerous other reports. So, it is hard to know which report to believe right now. Instead, the South Korean firm will reportedly unveil its first tri-foldable device before the end of this year. Not much is known about this tri-folding Galaxy device, but it is expected that it can turn from a compact smartphone to a large-screen tablet thanks to its foldable OLED screen with two hinges.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will reportedly use a new, water droplet-shaped hinge that allows the internals screen to fold with a wider radius. It should result in a less visible crease than on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The device can also fold completely flat. Both phones are also IPX8-rated for water resistance.
Samsung Display already showcased its tri-folding OLED screen a couple of years ago, and an improved version of that panel could be used in the tri-folding device that is rumored to launch later this year. The device may also feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy chipset. Since it is the first such device, consumers would be concerned about its durability.
