A few weeks ago, we revealed that Samsung will equip the Galaxy Watch 6 series with a slightly improved version of the Exynos W920. Our report stated that the chipset could be named the Exynos W980. However, it looks like Samsung has chosen a more apt name for the chip, given its expected minor improvements.

Exynos W930 spotted in Bluetooth certification database, could be used in Galaxy Watch 6

A new Exynos processor has received certification from the Bluetooth SIG (via @Tech_Reve). The chipset carries model number S5E5515 and the model name Exynos W930. Even the Exynos W920, which was used in the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 5, used the same model number (S5E5515). So, it is possible that the Exynos W930 is just a higher-clocked version or a better-binned version of the Exynos W920.

Going by the information available in the Bluetooth certification document, the Exynos W930 features support for Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi. However, the chipset needs a supporting RF chip for wireless communication. Our previous report claimed that the next Exynos chip for wearable devices has 10% faster performance than the Exynos W920, and that could be either due to higher clock speed or better chip fabrication.

The Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic could use this chipset. They will run Wear OS 4-based One UI 5 Watch software out of the box. They will also have all the activity and health tracking features that are available in the Galaxy Watch 5 series. Both upcoming watches from Samsung are expected to feature batteries with similar capacities, and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will have the iconic rotating bezel.

MediaTek could help Exynos find a crack in Snapdragon’s armor

Exynos has had a rough time in recent years. I don't hate Exynos, and I'm happy with how my Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy S24+ turned out, but I can understand why many Samsung fans might still be reluctant toward the in-house chip brand. As the old adage goes, “Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me […]
