Samsung files patent lawsuit against California-based Mojo Mobility

Samsung Electronics is reportedly fighting back against California-based wireless charging technology company Mojo Mobility after the latter filed a patent infringement suit against Samsung last year. Mojo Mobility went against Samsung through a patent infringement suit filed at the Texas Eastern District Court last year. It claimed that the Korean tech giant violated a family of patents concerning wireless chargers. Now, Samsung is fighting back.

According to new reports, Samsung Electronics filed patent invalidation lawsuits against Mojo Mobility over wireless charging technologies in late June (via Yonhap News Agency). Samsung brought its complaints to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Not another patent troll?

It's unclear if Samsung retaliated against Mojo Mobility around the same or similar patents as Mojo Mobility used for its lawsuits last year or if the Korean tech giant found other patent-related concerns it wanted to highlight in front of the USPTO.

Interestingly enough, Mojo Mobility doesn't appear to be a so-called patent troll, i.e., a company that deals only with patents and tries to find loopholes wherein it legally forces tech companies to pay royalties for patents they own and sit on — or forces them to settle so they don't deal with the headaches.

Last year, Mojo Mobility claimed that Samsung used its patented technologies in flagship Galaxy phones, smartwatches, and other devices without a license since 2016 after the two companies discussed a potential partnership.
