In theory, the Galaxy Z Flip 5's camera configuration is nothing to write home about. However, in practice, the foldable flip phone punches way above its weight class thanks to Samsung's balanced use of hardware, clever AI, and fantastic image processing. The main thing holding it back is the lack of a zoom camera.

Independent camera benchmark website DxOMark has ranked the Galaxy Z Flip 5 equal to the iPhone 12 Pro.

Both devices have an aggregated score of 127 and rank 44th. In the Ultra-Premium category (>$800), the Galaxy Z Flip 5 ranks 38th.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 camera impresses across several categories

In its summary, DxOMark says the Galaxy Z Flip 5 offers a pleasant experience in still-life image shooting, fast and stable autofocus for photo and video in most conditions, and effective video stabilization in both static and moving scenes.

For negatives, the camera benchmark website notes that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 camera produces noise in photos and strong moving textures artifacts on faces in low-light photography.

Samsung equipped the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a 12MP wide camera featuring OIS and Dual Pixel PDAF and a 12MP ultrawide camera. When flipped open, the phone reveals a 10MP selfie sensor embedded in the foldable display.

And even though the lack of a zoom camera may be a big deal if you're coming from a Galaxy S22 Ultra or S23 Ultra, the 2x zoom on the Z Flip 5's primary sensor offers decent quality with well-lit photos.

If you want to buy the Galaxy Z Flip 5, you can get the 256GB model from Samsung for $999. Customers can pick from four color options and four additional online-exclusive colors.
