Samsung has just released massive software updates to the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S23. These updates were released in some Asian and Latin American markets earlier but are now finally available in Europe. The Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S23 get camera improvements with the new software updates.

The latest software update for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra comes bearing firmware version S901BXXU6CWH5 in Europe. The Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra are getting the new update with firmware version S911BXXU3AWGJ. The update for the Galaxy S22 series has a massive file size of around 1.8GB, while the one for the Galaxy S23 series comes in at around 1.3GB. Both phones have received the August 2023 security patch that fixes over 70 security flaws in previous software versions.

What's new with the Galaxy S22 August 2023 update?

Samsung had promised to improve the low-light camera performance of the Galaxy S22 series with the August 2023 update, and the new update could be just that. Galaxy S23 users complained in the past that light sources appear blown out and the sky appears noisy in low-light conditions, and Samsung noted those issues and promised to solve them.

What's new with the Galaxy S23 August 2023 update?

The new update to the Galaxy S23 series adds the 2x zoom toggle in the camera app. The phone uses an in-sensor crop from the primary 200MP camera to offer zoom quality closer to optical quality. It also improves digital zoom quality by using AI-based deep learning techniques. Portrait Video now offers smoother videos as Samsung has bumped up the video frame rate from 24fps to 30fps at 4K resolution for Big Circle, Color Point, and Glitch effects. Super Steady videos should appear sharper and smoother at QHD 60fps. The selfie camera now offers more natural face shape correction.

Samsung has also improved image and focus quality in shots where the subject is close to the camera. This issue was termed “bananagate” by some Galaxy S23 series users, and the problem has been reduced. The South Korean firm also claims that it has reduced the shutter lag problem on the Galaxy S23 series, resulting in better images of kids and pets. The noise in the shadow areas has been reduced in 50MP and 200MP modes. The blur effect now appears more natural.
