After releasing the October 2023 security update to the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S23, Samsung has started rolling out the new security update to the Galaxy S21 series as well. Right now, the October 2023 security update is available for the Galaxy S21 series in Canada and the US, with access to it in more markets coming soon.
Galaxy S21 October 2023 security update available in Canada and the USA
The latest software update for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with firmware version G998WVLS9EWI6 in Canada. The update is available on all carrier networks in the country, and you can check it on your device. In the US, the update is available for the carrier-locked version of Galaxy S21 series phones with firmware version G998USQS9EWI2. It is currently available for users on Sprint and T-Mobile networks in the US.
The new update brings the October 2023 security patch to the phones, and it fixes dozens of security vulnerabilities found in Android and Samsung's One UI software. Fixes for Android's code were developed by Google, while the fixes for One UI were created by Samsung.
If you have a Galaxy S21 series phone and if you live in Canada or the US, you can now check for the October 2023 security update on your phone. To do that, navigate to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. Alternatively, you can download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.
