In June this year, Humane, a startup founded by two former Apple employees, announced the company’s first product, the Humane AI Pin, a wearable that offers you a voice assistant powered by generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to help you with various tasks. So far, the company has given a few glimpses of the device. We got to see the wearable in full at Paris Fashion Week but not in action. Well, today we get the best look at the Humane AI Pin yet, thanks to Time Magazine which shows the device up close with all its indicators lit up.

Time Magazine gives us a closer look at Humane AI Pin

Humane is expected to launch the AI Pin (or at least reveal more details about the product) on November 9, 2023. However, Time Magazine has included the wearable in The Best Inventions of 2023 list, even before the product has hit the market. This list contains an image of the Humane AI Pin which shows how the device looks with the two indicators turned on.

That’s right. The wearable has two indicators, one is a multi-coloured light that turns on when you are talking to the device, to indicate that it is listening to your query/command. The other one is an orange-coloured light that goes on when the device’s camera or microphone(s) are being accessed. According to Time Magazine, the privacy indicator is called “Trust Light”.

We can also see in the image that the Humane AI Pin has a stainless steel frame (or at least a stainless steel finish), a camera located right beside the privacy indicator, and a microphone hole on the front. That isn’t to say there aren’t more microphones on the device. We wish we also got to see how the device looked from the back. But for now, this image gives us a pretty good idea about the device. Plus, Humane’s event on November 9, 2023, isn’t far away. Hopefully, we will get to know everything about AI Pin on that day.

What tasks can Humane AI Pin perform?

The Humane AI Pin can project a screen on the hands of the users, as the company's Inventor & Co-Founder Imran Chaudhri showcased at Ted Talk. During the show, he demonstrated how the device can scan a packaged food item and check its ingredients to tell if it contains anything that you are allergic to. Imran also demoed how Humane AI Pin can translate your speech from one language to another, and generate the audio in your voice and style, which sounded pretty cool. He even revealed that the Human AI Pin is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC.

Samsung is also developing a new type of wearable: Galaxy Ring

Speaking of new types of wearables, Samsung is developing the Galaxy Ring, a wearable that you can put on your finger, just like a ring. It is expected to offer health, fitness, and sleep tracking. This device will be an excellent option for people who want a device that can track their vitals but don’t want it to be a fitness band or a smartwatch, which aren’t very comfortable for wearing for a long period of time and require frequent charging. Various reports suggest that Samsung might launch the Galaxy Ring in January 2024.
