Samsung is yet to release the December 2023 security update to any of its devices, but it has revealed what's included in the new security update. The company revealed information about the upcoming security patch on its security bulletin. This update could be released to dozens of smartphones and tablets within the next few days.
The December 2023 security update from Samsung contains a total of 75 fixes for known security vulnerabilities. 54 of those fixes have been released by Google and included in Samsung's update. Samsung Semiconductor (for Exynos-related issues) offered four security fixes, while Samsung's smartphone division fixed 16 security flaws in the previous software version. Of the 54 fixes offered by Google, seven are deemed critical, while 43 fixes are marked as high priority. One of those fixes was already included in Samsung's November 2023 security patch. Four security fixes offered by Google are not applicable to Samsung phones and tablets.
Of the 16 fixes from Samsung, nine are marked as high priority, while six are of moderate priority. Samsung's fixes include the issues related to Knox, memory and integer overflow, AR Emoji, bootloader, Smart Clip, and the Contacts app. You can read more about them on Samsung's security-focused webpage.
Samsung will likely start rolling out the December 2023 security update to its high-end phones first. Later, the update could be released to tablets, mid-range phones, and then affordable phones. This update could take a month or slightly more to reach all compatible devices.
