After ChatGPT launched in November 2022, Google was forced to accelerate its AI technologies. A few months ago, Google unveiled Google Bard, powered by LaMDA, in March earlier this year. In May, the company improved its AI model with the launch of PaLM in May. This week, Google unveiled an even more powerful foundation model in the form of Gemini. This model now powers Google Bard, which now performs much better. Gemini AI is coming to Samsung and other Android phones, too.

Gemini has three versions: Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano. The Gemini Ultra is the most powerful and requires the web to work, and Google claims that it performs better than GPT-4, which powers ChatGPT and other chatbots. Google Bard is now powered by Gemini Pro.

Gemini Nano is a smaller version that can run on-device. Gemini Nano now powers several features on the Pixel 8 Pro smartphone. For instance, the Voice Recorder app now offers a summarization feature even without an internet connection. So, voice recordings of conversations and interviews can be summarized even if the Pixel 8 Pro isn't connected to the internet. Gemini Nano also powers Gboard's Smart Replies feature, which can now be tested with WhatsApp. It knows the context of the chat and suggests high-quality replies. This feature is coming to more messaging apps soon.

Gemini AI is also powering the Assistant with Bard experience on some Pixel smartphones. Google also spoke about Android 14 and how the AI Core service allows developers to use AI features like Gemini Nano on smartphones powered by Google's Tensor G3 and other flagship smartphone processors from MediaTek, Samsung's System LSI (which designs Exynos processors), and Qualcomm. The company said it will announce support for more devices and partnerships with more silicon partners soon. While the company didn't reveal much, it looks like Gemini AI can run on modern flagship smartphone chips, including the recently announced Dimensity 9300, Exynos 2400, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The Galaxy S24 series is rumored to be powered by the Exynos 2400 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors. Since Gemini Nano can run on-device on phones powered by these chips, it is highly likely that they will offer similar AI features, including smarter replies, real-time transliteration, and smarter answers from AI-powered digital voice assistants. Samsung has already announced Galaxy AI, which will offer real-time transliteration during voice calls, and it is coming to the Galaxy S24. We expect Samsung to announce more AI features during the launch event for the Galaxy S24 series.
