Samsung will introduce several AI and Generative AI features to its phones with the One UI 6.1 update. Some of those features, including real-time language translation, wallpaper generator, and notes summarization, have leaked already. Now, it has been revealed that Samsung will bring Generative AI to its keyboard app, too.

One UI 6.1 to bring four Generative AI models to Samsung Keyboard

One UI 6.1 will introduce Generative AI to Samsung Keyboard. Tipster Vedant Kalore found the existence of that feature via Samsung Remote Lab, which is currently allowing developers to test One UI 6.1. As you can see in the video below, Samsung Keyboard will have a new option called Generative AI, and you can choose from four Generative AI models: PaLM 2 (from Google), GPT4 (from OpenAI of ChatGPT), Gecko (a version of PaLM 2 from Google), and Scs (probably from Samsung?). Moreover, it lets users choose from two language translation models: LLM and on-device. The former might need an internet connection, while the latter appears to be completely offline.

While it is still unclear as to which capabilities and features these Generative AI models will bring to Samsung Keyboard, it is likely that they will empower Samsung phones and tablets with features like grammar improvement, language translation, and text summarization. A previous leak revealed that Samsung Notes will offer a summarization of notes that a user has captured through their handwriting using the S Pen. Another leak revealed that Samsung's stock Voice Recorder app can recognize up to ten voices and transcribe their voices into text, which is great for meetings and lectures. Some of those features will likely come to existing phones, including the Galaxy S23.

Equipped with the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors, Galaxy S24 series phones are expected to offer several AI and Generative AI features. Those features could be the differentiating factor between Samsung's flagship phones and rival devices from other brands. Samsung has developed an in-house LLM (Large Language Model) called Samsung Gauss, and a lot of AI features on Galaxy S24 series phones are expected to be powered by it.

Thanks for the tip, Vedant!
