The One UI 6 update was released for some carrier variants of the Galaxy S21 FE in early December, and it is now making its way to unlocked models.
Samsung launched two different unlocked Galaxy S21 FE models in the USA in some other markets – the first one came with Android 12 out of the box while the other was released running Android 13. One UI 6 is currently rolling out to the latter model, but it likely won't be too long before all unlocked units get the update.
The update is accompanied by firmware version G990U2SQU7FWKD and, in addition to all the features and changes that are a part of One UI 6.0, it is bundled with the December 2023 security patch (the same patch was included in the release for the Exynos-powered S21 FE).
Android 14 and One UI 6 bring plenty of new features and various user experience improvements, such as camera widgets, improved photo and video editing tools, security enhancements like Auto Blocker, a redesigned Quick Panel that's better in some ways and worse in others, a new media player widget for the notification shade, and lots more.
Own an unlocked Galaxy S21 FE? Head over to the phone's Settings » Software update menu and tap the Download and install option to download the One UI 6 update. If the update doesn't show up, check again later as these updates are rolled out in phases and can take time to reach everyone. Android 14 firmware are also available in our archive and can be installed on the device using a Windows PC.
Galaxy S21 FE will get two more Android version updates
The next One UI update for the Galaxy S21 FE will be One UI 6.1, which is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2024. The Galaxy S21 FE is also eligible to receive Android 15 and Android 16, so owners of the phone will have access to the latest software for another two years or so. The Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra, on the other hand, will stop getting Android OS upgrades after Android 15 unless Samsung decides to change its software update policy, as they were launched running Android 11.
