In addition to all the big new features that have been making their way to WhatsApp over the last few months, Meta is working on various minor improvements to the world's most popular messaging app.
Improvements are also coming to the web version of WhatsApp. It will be getting a new sidebar that looks like the one that's present in the Windows version of the app, and the folks over at WABetaInfo have discovered that WhatsApp Web's dark theme could soon match that of the Android app.
WhatsApp Web will get a slightly darker background color when the dark theme is enabled, as can be seen in the screenshot above. The change is subtle but will make for a consistent look across all platforms, which isn't the case at this time, at least for WhatsApp Web.
The image below shows how the new color differs from the existing one. Sadly, WhatsApp doesn't seem interested in providing users the option to have a fully black background. It's possible to get a black background inside chats using the wallpaper dimming option in WhatsApp's Settings » Chats » Wallpaper menu, but the color cannot be changed in other sections of the app.
As with every new feature or change that comes to WhatsApp, there's no telling when the web version's updated dark theme will make its way to users, but we'll let you know when we learn more.
