Samsung launches at least one rugged smartphone or tablet every year. It has been over a year since the company launched a rugged tablet, and Samsung will soon launch a new rugged tablet called the Galaxy Tab Active 5. The upcoming tablet made its presence felt through some reports over the past two months, and its images and full specifications have now leaked.
Galaxy Tab Active 5 features an S Pen and an IP68 rating
The design and full specifications of the Galaxy Tab Active 5 have been published by MSPowerUser. Images reveal that the device comes with a protective cover. It has an 8-inch LCD screen with a 1,920 x 1,200 pixels resolution and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It also has three physical buttons, an IP68 rating, and a MIL-STD-810H-compliant design, which would be great for use in the field or industrial use. The device will also come bundled with an S Pen that also features an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It measures 126.8 x 213.8mm x 10.1mm and weighs 433g.
The device reportedly features the 5nm Exynos 1380 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot (up to 1TB). If the report is to be believed, the Galaxy Tab Active 5 will come pre-installed with Android 12, which is more than two years old now. On the front, it reportedly features a 5MP camera. On the rear, it has a 13MP camera with autofocus, F1.9 aperture, and 4K 30fps video recording.
The Galaxy Tab Active 5, like many other rugged phones and tablets from Samsung, has a user-replaceable battery (5,050mAh). Connectivity features of the device include GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, and a headphone jack. It also features a fingerprint reader embedded into its home button. It also comes with an Active Key on one of its sides. Samsung will reportedly claim shock resistance from a height of up to 1.2 meters for this tablet.
We expect the tablet to be officially announced within the next few months, but it will likely be launched only in a few markets worldwide.
