Google Meet has gone through several changes over the past couple of years on both the Android and iOS apps as well as the web version. We saw changes in the logo, favicon, etc., and also witnessed Google Meet replace Google Duo. Moreover, the Google Duo legacy URL was redirected to meet.google.com/calling.

In a new report, it is highlighted that Google Meet has clubbed the web app with the ‘Calls' tab for unified communication. Until recently, both websites weren't connected, but now there is a navigation drawer that lets you easily switch between ‘Meeting' and ‘Calls'.

Google explains via a prompt how to “Make and get calls in Meet: Now you can use Meet to call people, and they can call you, too. Click the Calls tab to get started.

The Google Meet web app unification with the ‘Calls' tab is available for personal Google accounts

While the prompt may suggest that this Google Meet web app integration with the ‘Calls' tab is something very new, this dates back to the Duo era. According to 9To5Google, this feature is live only for personal Google accounts, not Workspace accounts. It should be noted that enterprise customers recently received something similar on the Google Meet Android and iOS apps.

For some time now, the Google Meet mobile app, which has replaced Duo, has had both meeting and direct calling functionality. However, the original Meet app remains with the video tab in the integrated Gmail app, enabling standard meeting services.
