In October 2023, X (previously known as Twitter) rolled out the functionality for making audio and video calls in the X app for iOS. Now, the Elon Musk-owned company is rolling out the audio and video calling functionality in the X app for Android. The news was revealed by an employee of X, unsurprisingly, on X. According to him, the company is rolling out the feature slowly. So, it might take a few days to reach all users.
At the moment, only people with the Premium membership can make audio and video calls. However, anyone (and that means people who are using X for free) can receive audio and video calls. Other social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat offer audio and video call functionality for free. X has also started charging people for making a post, in an attempt to reduce bots on the platform.
To get audio and video functionality, you have to update the app, according to the employee of X. So, make sure to do that. However, there’s no information at the moment about which version of the app brings the two new features.
