As scheduled, Apple has started rolling out iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3 to compatible iPhone and iPad models worldwide. The new versions of the two operating systems bring two major features, Stolen Device Protection and Collaborative Playlists in Apple Music, as well as Unity wallpaper. Your Apple device should automatically notify you about the update but if it hasn’t, you can check for the new firmware by going to Settings » General » Software Update. If you see the update, click on Update Now to install it.

What is Stolen Device Protection?

Stolen Device Protection is a set of security measures to prevent a thief from changing an iPhone’s or iPad’s security settings or making any changes to the Apple ID in it even if they know the passcode of the device.

Stolen Device Protection has two main security measures. The first security measure is where an iPhone or an iPad will require Face ID or Touch ID biometric authentication, without an option to use a passcode, to make any changes to the device’s security settings or Apple ID. The second security measure is called Security Delay. With it, once you’ve made any changes to the device’s security settings or Apple ID, you'll have to wait an hour before making any more changes to the device’s security settings or Apple ID.

What are Collaborative Playlists in Apple Music?

With Collaborative Playlists, you can invite multiple people to your playlist on Apple Music and allow them to add, remove, and reorder songs in that playlist, as well as let them leave reactions on songs using animated emojis, which can help you build a playlist in collaboration with other people and share music experiences at the same time.

What is Unity wallpaper?

Unity wallpaper is a wallpaper to “honor Black history and culture in celebration of Black History Month.” This wallpaper has an outline of flowers that fill with colors when you open the device. This is a part of the Unity Collection which also includes a special band for Apple Watch models.

Galaxy phones are gaining long-term value as iPhones depreciate

Historically, one of the best attributes iPhones have enjoyed is a higher resale value than Android phones. However, although Apple devices maintain a relatively low depreciation rate even in 2024, market trends appear to be shifting.
