Two reasons you may soon want to trade-in your Galaxy A54

The Galaxy A54 was one of our favorite phones of 2023. Even if optimization wasn't perfect early on and random stutters marred the otherwise positive experience, we couldn't overlook the excellent upgrades this phone introduced to the series.

In some ways, the Galaxy A54 was the first A5x model in years that redefined the borders between the mid-range and high-end Galaxy segments. It brought exciting features like a brighter screen with Vision Booster technology, front and rear Gorilla Glass panels, vastly improved OIS and night photography, Wi-Fi 6, and more.

All things considered, the Galaxy A54 still is a decent mid-range phone. But you may soon want to trade it for the sequel for two main reasons.

More RAM than the Galaxy S24 and a better SoC

If you like the Galaxy A54 but wish it were more powerful, the Galaxy A55 might be the perfect upgrade you've been looking for. Samsung will announce the Galaxy A55 next week. And recent benchmark listings reveal some very interesting things about the Galaxy A54 sequel.

First is the Exynos 1480 SoC. It's the first mid-range solution from Samsung to adopt an AMD RDNA-based graphics chip. And it's built on a 4nm architecture, similar to the Exynos 2400 that powers the Galaxy S24.

Benchmarks show that the Exynos 1480 solution beats the Exynos 1380 by every metric that counts. And the gap might be significant enough to make a noticeable difference in the real world.

Even juicier is the Geekbench entry that showed the Galaxy A55 sporting a whopping 12GB of RAM. Not even the base Galaxy S24 has a 12GB option. As for your Galaxy A54, you probably know it is offered with 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB of RAM, but not 12GB.

Galaxy A55 12GB RAM

All things considered, the Galaxy A55 might be a beast, and if you are in a market where Samsung offers decent trade-in values, these performance upgrades to the SoC and RAM might make you want to upgrade your Galaxy A54 very soon.

We'll have to wait and see how these hardware improvements translate into the real world, but exciting things might be waiting Galaxy A5x fans just over the horizon.

On the other hand, don't let the Galaxy A55 intimidate you if you have no intentions of trading your Galaxy A54. As long as you don't need more RAM or a seemingly faster SoC, the Galaxy A54 still has to receive three more big Android OS upgrades before Samsung stops supporting it. Technically speaking, you are covered up to and including Android 17.
