Samsung has released the One UI 6.1 update to its mid-range rugged tablet, the Galaxy Tab Active 5. This is the company's third mid-range tablet to receive the One UI 6.1 update, with the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ being the other two.
More tablets from Samsung might get the update in the near future.
Galaxy Tab Active 5 gets One UI 6.1 update in South Korea
The major new software update for the Galaxy Tab Active 5 brings One UI 6.1 to the tablet. It is available in South Korea and comes bearing firmware version X306NKOU1AXD7. It has a relatively large download size, so we advise you to download it using a Wi-Fi network. Unfortunately, the update doesn't include any of the Galaxy AI features that debuted with One UI 6.1 on the Galaxy S24 earlier this year.
If you have a Galaxy Tab Active 5 and live in South Korea, you can now check for the One UI 6.1 update. To do that, open the Settings app on your tablet, navigate to Software update, and tap Download and install. You can watch the non-Galaxy AI features of One UI 6.1 in our video below.
What's new with One UI 6.1 update for Galaxy Tab Active 5?
The One UI 6.1 update improves image editing to the Galaxy Tab Active 5. According to the official changelog for the new update, you can copy objects or subjects from one image and paste them into another. Thanks to AI, the accuracy of clipping objects or subjects from images has improved. Searching within the Gallery app has improved. Users can change the video playback speed while editing videos. They can also export video editing projects to another Galaxy device and continue editing on the other device.
Wallpaper can now have a depth-of-field effect to make people or pets stand out from the background. There are new widgets (from Samsung's stock apps) on the lockscreen, and the lockscreen clock widget can use custom fonts. You can customize alerts for alarms and reminders.
The Calendar app's settings menu has been revamped. You can add up to two custom stickers for every day on the calendar. In the Reminders app, you can choose icons for categories and pin some categories. You can reorder Modes, turn off/on Modes from the home screen, and use more conditions (Alarm or Smart View) for Routines.
One UI 6.1 also brings improved Quick Share to the Galaxy Tab Active 5. You can sync web browser tab groups from Samsung Internet to other devices using the same Samsung account. Data in Samsung Cloud is end-to-end encrypted. Samsung Wallet now supports passkeys for an improved login experience.
During a call, microphone modes and video call effects can be easily accessed from the quick setting toggle area. The Weather widget now displays more information. You can add text using voice dictation without hiding the Samsung Keyboard. There is a keyboard shortcut (Windows _ CTRL + Left/Right) for split-screen multitasking. You can open all minimized apps at once.
The Finder screen now fetches matching results from the internet using Google Search. The One UI 6.1 update also brings more battery health protection features to the Galaxy Tab Active 5.
