With just a few weeks left before the next major Unpacked launch event goes live, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 foldable phone appears to be going through the usual process of gaining regulatory approvals ahead of its eventual market debut. And this means the phone is more likely to leak.
Samsung's next-gen Galaxy Z Flip 6 recently appeared online at BIS and on the Camera FV-5 platform (via 91mobiles). The two places are unrelated but nonetheless reveal and reconfirm some details about the upcoming foldable flip phone.
Firstly, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 appears to have obtained the BIS certificate, which is required by the Indian authorities before an electronic product goes on sale. Not only does this bring the phone closer to release, technically speaking, but the BIS certificate confirms an Indian launch. It doesn't reveal much about the phone but reconfirms that it carries model number SM-F741B.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 50MP camera confirmed
As early as August 2023, we got word from our colleagues at GalaxyClub that Samsung was already testing the next-gen Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a 50MP primary camera in tow. That rumor was spot on, and new data appears to reconfirm the high-resolution theory.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6, i.e., the same SM-F741B model number spotted at BIS, has shown up on the Camera FV-5 platform. The latter indirectly confirms that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a 50MP primary camera.
More specifically, the camera platform confirms a 12.5MP resolution with pixel binning, which corresponds to a 50MP sensor (12.5 x 4 with pixel binning = 50.0).
According to this data, the Galaxy Z Flip 6's main camera should also boast EIS and OIS, an f/1.8 aperture, and a 5.4mm focal length. For more context, the ongoing Galaxy Z Flip 5 features a 12MP primary camera, which means the Galaxy Z Flip 6 should represent a massive upgrade in this area.
Samsung should host the next Unpacked event in early July in Paris, a couple of weeks before the 2024 Olympic Games kick off. At Unpacked, the Korean tech company is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Flip 6 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The company might also launch the brand-new Galaxy Ring wearable and an upgraded Galaxy Watch 7 series.
