It's a new day, and Samsung is adding more smartphones to the list of devices that have the latest security patch installed. The May 2024 security update is rolling out to the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
The update seems to be widely available – it's rolling out in some European countries and to both carrier and unlocked Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra units in the USA. The European release can be identified by a build number ending in HXE9 and the US release by a build number ending in HXE3.
Story continues after the video below
The May 2024 security patch includes fixes for 45 security vulnerabilities discovered in previous versions of Android and One UI. 33 of those fixes deal with vulnerabilities that affect all Android smartphones, with one of them termed critical and 26 termed to be high-risk. The other 12 fixes address vulnerabilities affecting only Galaxy devices.
As always, you can download the latest update on your phone by selecting the Download and install option in its Settings » Software update menu or grab the full firmware from our archive and install it on the phone using a Windows PC.
You will not be surprised to know that this update's sole purpose is to enhance your phone's security. Support for feature and operating system version updates for the Note 20 series ended last year with the release of One UI 5.1. The two phones will also lose support for monthly security updates before the end of 2024, following which they will get new security patches every three months.
