The Ultra models in the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 lineups are getting a new update. This follows the May 2024 security update that was released for all Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 series phones earlier this month.
What's new with these Ultra-exclusive updates?
According to the official changelogs, these new updates improve the overall stability and reliability of the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung hasn't gone into more detail about what these updates offer, neither has it revealed why only the Ultra models are getting them.
Some Galaxy S24 Ultra owners have reported that the update fixes a camera issue that caused a rattling/mechanical noise when recording videos and panning the camera in certain directions. This issue plagued the Galaxy S23 Ultra as well, though the 2023 phone appears to have received a fix for it some time ago.
Another odd thing about these updates—sporting build numbers S918BXXU5CXE1 and S928BXXU2AXE4 for the S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra respectively—is that they are limited to Thailand and don't seem to have been released anywhere else four days after they started rolling out in the Asian country.
We will have to wait and see if that will change in the coming days and whether the updates will also be released for the base and Plus Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 models. Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra owners, meanwhile, can check if the update is available by navigating to their phone's Settings » Software update menu and selecting Download and install.
