The Galaxy S21 FE was expected to go official just a year after the launch of the Galaxy S20 FE. However, the phone was delayed due to the ongoing global chip shortage. As expected, it comes with a few improvements over the Galaxy S20 FE and brings a newer processor and a newer design. Samsung also made one change that might affect some users but not others: the exclusion of a microSD card slot.
Yes, the Galaxy S21 FE doesn’t have a microSD card slot, which means that you can’t expand the storage space on the phone after buying one. Samsung’s decision might irk a lot of loyal Galaxy users.
You're at the mercy of onboard storage and the cloud
The other Galaxy S21 series phones—Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra—lack the microSD card slot, too, so we are not too surprised that the S21 FE lacks it as well. However, given its ‘FE (Fan Edition)’ status, we had hoped that it might feature storage expansion, given how many Galaxy fans actually like the microSD card slot.
The Galaxy S21 FE comes in two storage variants: 128GB and 256GB. If you’re someone who stores a lot of files offline, you should opt for the 256GB version. But if you mostly stream multimedia and save your files on the cloud, the 128GB version might just be enough for you.
With the exclusion of a microSD card slot, headphone jack, and a bundled charger, we are not sure how the phone gets to keep the FE tag, at least when considering it as a sequel to the Galaxy S20 FE.
