Samsung has been pushing its MicroLED technology for a couple of years. It has even launched massive models with screen sizes above 100-inches. As you can expect, those TVs cost an arm and a leg.

The prices for the 110-inch MicroLED TV were as high as 170 million won. That's over $140,000. Very few people in the world have that kind of money to burn on a TV. Fortunately, the 89-inch model that Samsung's making will actually be affordable for some people.

Prices for Samsung's MicroLED TVs are coming down

Korean media is reporting that Samsung will start mass-producing its 89-inch and 101-inch MicroLED TVs by May this year. These will be the two sizes of its 2022 MicroLED lineup that are released first. A new 114-inch model will come later.

The new 89-inch model is expected to cost around 96 million won or $80,000. That's still a lot of money for a TV but there are certainly a lot more people who can drop 80 large on a TV. The new 114-inch model may cost the equivalent of $100,000, cheaper than its predecessor.

The company has been able to reduce the cost of these TVs by using LTPS TFT panels. This change in technology allows for a simpler manufacturing process with reduced cost, enabling Samsung to bring down the prices of these ultra-premium televisions.
