The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 may be Samsung's first foldable phone to adopt the S Pen entirely and feature a dedicated holster for this accessory. And according to a new rumor, Samsung is working on making the foldable screen more resilient. The company will reportedly use improved UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) technology to make the Galaxy Z Fold 4's foldable display more resistant to scratches, and it's considering rebranding UTG as ‘Super UTG' for marketing purposes.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the first foldable device to work with an S Pen; however, compatibility is limited to the S Pen Fold Edition and the S Pen Pro. These accessories offers the same functionality as a regular S Pen but have a softer, spring-loaded tip to protect the foldable display from scratches and dents.
Samsung ‘Super UTG' could be the next level
UTG has made Samsung's foldable displays more resistant than the competition's, but even so, these panels are more susceptible to damage from external forces than rigid, Gorilla Glass-covered screens.
Samsung kept improving UTG with every Z Fold generation, and the company will reportedly do the same for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4. As per a new rumor (via Naver), the tech giant is considering marketing this upgraded glass substrate under the ‘Super UTG' brand.
The recent rumor doesn't mention exactly how much more resilient the new generation of ‘Super UTG' will be over the existing solution. So, whether or not the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will work with regular S Pens remains to be seen. But regardless, the Z Fold 4's foldable panel should have a higher tolerance to scratches than ever before.
