The Galaxy A7x lineup sits at the top of Samsung's premium mid-range lineup. Samsung unveiled a new model today – the Galaxy A73 5G – with some very promising improvements. There hasn't been much fanfare about this device compared to the Galaxy A33 5G and Galaxy A53 5G that it launched with, though.

That may be due to the fact that the Galaxy A73 5G may not be available widely at launch. It may eventually be made available down the road. There's a possibility that markets across Europe may get it a bit later.

Galaxy A73 5G ditches the zoom camera for 8K video recording

The Galaxy A73 5G features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED+ Infinity-O display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The IP67-rated body measures 76.1 x 163.7 x 7.6mm and weighs 181g. No significant design changes have been made. It does retain the characteristic youthful design of the series.

Samsung is using the Snapdragon 778G chipset for the Galaxy A73 5G. It will be available with 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage. There's a microSD card slot for external expansion up to 1TB. Fans of the headphone jack may not like the fact that it has ditched the 3.5mm jack.

A major change has been made to the device's camera setup compared to its predecessor. It gets Samsung's 108MP primary sensor instead of the 8MP 3x zoom sensor of the Galaxy A72. The other sensors on the Galaxy A73 5G include a 12MP ultra-wide, 5MP depth and 5MP macro. A 32MP selfie camera is also present.

Samsung is shipping this device with Android 12 and One UI 4.1 out of the box. The company says that it will get four years of Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates. This places the mid-ranger in a class of its own compared to the competition.

A 5,000mAh battery powers the device and supports 25W fast charging. Samsung is no longer shipping a charger in the box so you'll need to buy your own. The box doesn't even come with earphones.

Samsung has confirmed today that the Galaxy A73 5G will go on sale in select markets on April 22.
