After ten years of working with Intel, supercomputer expert Robert Wisniewski has joined Samsung Electronics America to lead the company's system architecture lab in the United States.
The ex-Intel executive now fills the roles of Senior Vice President and Chief Architect of HPC (High-Performance Computing) and Head of Samsung's SAIT (Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology) America Systems Architecture Lab.
“I'm excited to join Samsung SAIT on the mission to create a US-based systems lab,” reads the exec's updated LinkedIn page. According to the latter, Robert Wisniewski and Samsung Electronics will be “focusing on overcoming the memory and communication walls for AI and HPC applications.”
Samsung's semiconductor business in the United States is growing, and last year, the company officially announced that it is building a $17 billion semiconductor manufacturing plant in Texas.
Samsung also began collaborating with AMD for its latest Exynos chip, particularly around the GPU area, and new rumors suggest that the company might be planning on developing a new in-house mobile SoC specifically for Galaxy devices.
Before Samsung, Robert Wisniewski worked for ten years at Intel. His roles were that of Chief Software Architect, Chief Architect of HPC, and Technical Lead/PI for Aurora. He was also an Intel Fellow, which is a rank that denotes the highest level of technical achievement within the company. Prior to Intel, Mr. Wisniewski worked for fifteen years at IBM Research, where he joined as a Research Scientist.
