Samsung Galaxy S20 June 2022 update rolling out, starting with Europe

Samsung's been a little slow in rolling out the June 2022 security update to its devices, but the company's finally speeding things up and getting back to the pace we expect from it these days when it comes software updates. A few pre-2022 mid-range phones started receiving the June security update this week, and Samsung has now added the flagship Galaxy S20 series to the list.

The update seems to have started rolling out in a few European markets, including Switzerland. Both LTE and 5G variants of the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are being updated, with the new firmware sporting version number G98xxXXSEFVE6. The Galaxy S20 FE is being left out for now, but that should change soon.

As you can tell from the firmware version, this update only brings the latest security fixes and has nothing to offer in terms of new features or non-security related improvements. The June 2022 security patch fixes quite a few security flaws in Samsung's software, including some related to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and QR scanner functionality. Five critical vulnerabilities have been fixed, in addition to 60 vulnerabilities of varying severity.

Galaxy S20 owners can download the new update over the air from their phone's Settings » Software update menu. We also have the latest firmware available in our database, which you can download to upgrade your phone manually using a Windows PC.

In the near future, the Galaxy S20 series will be among many Samsung phones and tablets that will be updated to One UI 4.1.1, and eventually by One UI 5.0, which will be accompanied by Android 13. Android 14 will not be supported on these phones, though, as the Galaxy S20 series doesn't get to be a part of Samsung's new four-year OS upgrade policy.
