Samsung may be planning to release a cheaper version of the Galaxy S21 FE this summer. A new S21 FE variant got listed by a couple of online shops in Europe, and it has a surprising hardware changes.
First spotted by our colleagues at Galaxy Club, this mysterious Galaxy S21 FE variant has the Snapdragon 720G chipset under the hood instead of the Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100.
These details were mentioned by two separate European shops — ITRelation and Technet. Needless to say, the possibility that the same typo happened on two different online stores seems slim.
Other details mentioned by both sources include a 6.4-inch FHD+ display, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a triple camera setup with two 12MP shooters and an 8MP sensor, a 32MP selfie camera, and a 4,500mAh battery.
In other words, it's a standard Galaxy S21 FE, aside from the less powerful chipset, and the implied downgrade from 5G to LTE connectivity.
On the other hand, our sources tell us that the upcoming S21 FE refresh does have 5G, which is odd, considering the chipset's limitations. But Samsung may have gone through some hoops and loops to make this possible, for whatever reason.
All in all, this refreshed Galaxy S21 FE should hit the market at a lower price than the existing variant. The e-shops expect the phone to be in stock on June 30.
New Galaxy S21 FE spotted at Bluetooth
There's more evidence of the existence of this new Galaxy S21 FE model apart from the two e-shop listings. Namely, the phone passed through the Bluetooth certification process not too long ago.
Unlike the existing Galaxy S21 FE, which has model number SM-G990B in Europe and other markets, the upcoming S21 FE has model number SM-G990B2.
The Bluetooth certification page outright links this model number with the Galaxy S21 FE name. It also confirms Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity.
We'll keep you up to speed as soon as we find out more about this new Galaxy S21 FE variant, prices, availability, and whether or not it retains 5G connectivity.
