After several leaks and rumors designed to generate hype around Unpacked 2022, Samsung finally announced the Galaxy Watch 5 series today. As many of you already know, the new lineup consists of a standard Galaxy Watch 5 variant available in two sizes and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Here's what they cost and when you can expect them to hit the market.
The standard 40mm Galaxy Watch 5 with Bluetooth connectivity is available for pre-order for $299 / €299. The LTE-enabled 40mm variant costs $349 / €349. Moving on to the slightly larger 44mm Galaxy Watch 5, the Bluetooth and LTE variants are priced at $329 / €329 and $379 / €379, respectively.
And last but certainly not least, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is available in one size, 45mm, and two connectivity options: Bluetooth and LTE. These variants are available for $469 / €469 and $499 / €499.
Samsung also offers Golf Edition models for both the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro, starting at $329 for the smallest Bluetooth version.
When can you start using the new Galaxy Watch 5?
Pre-orders for the Galaxy Watch 5 series are open starting today following a reservation period of a couple of weeks. Samsung customers pre-ordering the Galaxy Watch 5 or Galaxy Watch 5 Pro can expect the smartwatch(es) to start shipping near the end of the month. The official release date is August 26.
Much to our expectations, there is no Classic smartwatch variant this year. It's unclear if the Classic models featuring physical rotating bezels will ever make a return or if the Pro series is here to replace them for good.
The new Galaxy Watch 5 wearables command a higher price than the previous generation, but they promise an improved user experience through both hardware and software. Speaking of which, the new series runs on the latest version of One UI Watch (4.5) and Wear OS 3.5, and the Pro model has a generous battery that lasts up to 80 hours on a single charge.
The new Samsung smartwatches offer advanced Health features, better sleep tracking, sleep coaching, and a new temperature sensor. They're enhanced by sapphire glass, and the Pro model has a titanium case.
