Samsung leads German smartphone market to growth

Samsung has powered the German smartphone market to growth in Q1 2024. The South Korean firm's smartphone sales grew impressively compared to last year, while Apple's growth remained more muted. The German smartphone market saw sales growth after two years of low sales after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Samsung powers Germany's smartphone sales growth

Samsung's smartphone sales rose by 32% in Germany during the first quarter of this year compared to the first quarter of last year. Its sales have now almost matched Apple's, which increased by a mere 5%. According to Counterpoint Research's report, the Galaxy S24 series was well-received in Germany, and so was the Galaxy XCover series.

As you can see in the graphs above, Apple and Samsung now account for more than 70% of the German smartphone market. Xiaomi saw a 33% rise in its smartphone sales in the country, but its market share still remains quite small compared to Apple's and Samsung's.

Google Pixel phones are now selling well, which can be seen with a 163% rise in their sales. Since Google only sells mid-range or high-end phones, it matching Xiaomi in terms of market share is quite impressive in its own right. Honor's smartphone sales increased by 100% (2x) compared to last year, which is a positive sign for the company.

The German smartphone market is expected to grow for the rest of the year but in single digits. Samsung is close to uprooting Apple as the biggest smartphone brand in the country.

Commenting on the market dynamics, Associate Director Jan Stryjak said, “Samsung was by far the biggest driver for growth in the first quarter, largely due to the launch of the well-received Galaxy S24 series. The older A-Series and Xcover models also supported shipment growth.“
