At Google I/O 2024, Google showcased a redesigned bottom bar for Google Maps for Android. Instead of five tabs — Explore, Go, Saved, Contribute, and Updates — that the bottom bar offered for years, the new one had only three tabs — Explore, You, and Contribute. The company said that it reduced the number of tabs to simply the bottom bar. Well, it has now started rolling out the bottom bar with the new layout to the public.Summarize in one-click with Galaxy AI

As pointed out by 9To5Google, Google Maps version 11.138.XXXX or newer versions of the app offer the redesigned bottom bar. If you don’t see it even after updating the app to those versions, force-stop the app and open it again. That should solve the problem. If you still don’t see any change, then it means that Google has not made it available for your device yet. We too are not able to see it on our Galaxy S23 in India.

Where did functionalities in the Go and Updates tabs go?

Coming back to the redesign, the functionality that the Go tab offered is now available in the ‘Saved trips’ section under ‘Your lists’ in the You tab. As for the functionality that the Updates tab offered, it is now available in the notification icon in the top-right corner of the display, beside the messages icon, which is also new. As you might have already understood from the screenshots above, Google has renamed ‘Saved’ to ‘You.’

The story continues after the video…

Lastly, the You tab doesn’t offer a search bar. Overall, the redesigned bottom bar indeed makes Google Maps look more streamlined than before.
