Samsung Foundry, the world's second-biggest contract semiconductor chip manufacturer, will reportedly make AI chips for South Korean firm DeepX. The DX-M1 is DeepX's first-generation AI chip, which is being mass-produced in collaboration with Samsung Foundry's design house, Goanchips.

DeepX's AI chips to be made using Samsung Foundry's 5nm process

South Korean AI chip firm DeepX has signed a contract with Samsung Foundry's design house Goanchips for the mass production of AI chip—DX-M1—on a 5nm process node. DeepX received its first DX-M1 samples in June 2024 and conducted a series of verification tests to validate its performance. The chip is expected to be used by ten global corporate firms this year and up to 20 firms by the first half of 2025.

DeepX has built several prototypes with multi-project wafers using Goanchips' and Samsung Foundry's 5nm, 14nm, and 28nm processes. It has also provided AI chips and software development tools to more than 120 global firms across China, Europe, Japan, and the US. Of those firms, more than 20 companies are in the application development stages.

A DeepX official said, “DX-M1 will be an important opportunity for DeepX to enter the global AI semiconductor market. We will lead the AI semiconductor market in North America, Greater China, and Europe by providing the best AI solutions that meet the diverse needs of our customers.

Most of Goanchips' clients include fabless semiconductor firms that develop high-value products, like AI processing chips. It is among the leading South Korean semiconductor design firms, with many experienced and skilled engineers across the entire semiconductor process in leading process nodes.
